Southern Alberta Community Living Association also uses a team approach in the provision of supports to adults with developmental disabilities. This team involves the individual, his/her family and/or guardian, friends and SACLA employees. Individuals are the key decision makers in how supports will be provided and these decisions establish the priorities for the team.
Examples of how some individuals are choosing to be supported include:
- Living by themselves in their own homes with minimal supports
- Living with their families full-time and accessing SACLA staff to pursue opportunities that foster independence and encourage participation in community life
- Renting a home with one or more adults who have a developmental disability and receiving support from staff on a full or part-time basis
- Sharing their homes with a non-disabled roommate
